Technology developments The technologies on display are at different stages of development, ranging from market- ready to commercialization ready in the medium to longer term. They also represent Visteon's main product areas of interiors, climate and electronics. Visteon's advanced technological expertise has been combined with its extensive proprietary research on perceived quality and product design. This research has helped bring forward technologies that offer freedom of design for OEMs and maximum ease of use for the consumer. The vehicle's interior architecture reflects Visteon's vision of the future by creating a clutter- free and easy to use environment. The instrument panel uses a transmissive film manufactured by 3M to create a " secret- until-lit" appearance for information displays and ambient lighting. Visteon's InSkin T TPO material is used to provide driver and front passenger messaging and surface-mounted branding. Not only does the technology surprise the passengers, but it also allows increased use of ambient lighting to create interior harmony, enhancing the perception of high quality interiors. The instrument cluster uses another type of film that provides higher visibility enhancements for icons and graphics permitting the concurrent display of multiple images through a 3D effect. This technology offers a more immersive driving experience and can be used for instrumentation and navigation systems. This ultra-thin, complex curve-shaped touch panel uses electronic switches to enable a clean look in situations when the centre panel buttons do not need to be visible. When a user's hand nears the panel, the vehicle senses it and the buttons automatically illuminate to show a user- friendly HMI. When a user touches one of the buttons to select a function, the switch is actuated providing haptic feedback - a tactile vibration like a pulse - to lend a more natural button feel and let the user know his or her command is being processed. This concept vehicle signals a fundamental shift in vehicle interiors both in terms of creating a slick, clean centre stack but also by enhancing the feeling of craftsmanship and quality. According to Visteon's perceived quality research, consumers felt that the secret- until- lit centre stack conveyed a feeling of higher quality of the vehicle, which in turns helps generate an emotional attachment between the consumer and the vehicle. In the area of connectivity, the X- WAVE features an array of technologies that offer digital diversity, compatibility and easy access to wireless connectivity and remote battery charging. These technologies are achieved through the creation of clever compartments on the instrument panel and armrest that accommodate personal devices used regularly in the vehicle. The armrest swivels between front and rear seats thus offering easy access to devices for front and rear passengers. As Bertrand Stelandre, senior manager for design and innovation at Visteon in Europe says: " We are implementing the maximum amount of technology in the X- WAVE but without the usability complications; we want to make it easy and intuitive as well as offer the OEM designers freedom and real estate without overloading the cockpit." From a climatic perspective, the X- WAVE vehicle offers two key innovations in heating, ventilation and air conditioning ( HVAC) systems using the application-ready R744 refrigerant, that offers reduced tailpipe emissions and
