W hen you are a company researching, developing and manufacturing medical devices and you have similar manufacturing companies knocking at your door and requesting that you manufacture medical devices for them, you have to know you've reached a significant pinnacle in the industry. Such is the case with Nova Biomedical Corporation headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts. But contract manufacturing is just a part of the Nova Biomedical story. Founded in 1978, Nova Biomedical is a world leader in the manufacture of state- of- the- art medical devices, patient self- testing and hospital- based diagnostics. The company operates two US facilities responsible for all the research, development and manufacture of Nova- branded products for the US and overseas markets. The Waltham facility occupies 300,000 square feet of development, engineering and manufacturing space, and the Bedford facility, coming online in 2000, occupies 55,000 square feet of space. Over 125 of Nova Biomedical's 750 employees include scientists and engineers, significant of the company's dedication to continual research and development of new products for the medical device industry. Close to excellent universities in the Boston area, the company enjoys the local luxury of being able to pull from the pool of top university graduates. The company reports revenues of about $ 155 million annually. The Waltham facility produces Nova Biomedical's core products: whole blood gas analyzers and chemistry analyzers for biotechnology.
