Funding for the first phase of the Schulich School of Engineering renovation and expansion program has been received. " In total, we're looking for approximately $ 185 million to achieve all phases," says Dantzer. The initial renovations will be relatively minor, such as upgrades to meet technological advancements and to generally " renew" or modernize life safety systems. The refitting will include hazardous material abatement, energy and water efficiency improvements, as well as more basic actions such as the renewal of washrooms and centrally controlled classrooms. The phase two expansion part of this program ( when funded) will provide about 7,700 square meters ( 82,880 square feet) of new, well- serviced undergraduate experiential teaching space consolidated with student experience space, and highly serviced research labs that support senior undergraduate and graduate research, as well as faculty research programs. As well as providing opportunities to highlight undergraduate student projects and events, the project will showcase student and faculty research and initiatives undertaken with industrial partners. In addition to the engineering project, the University is constructing a new $ 200 million state- of- the- art Taylor Family Digital Library.
