38 www. bus- ex. com JANUARY 10 Power the21st century for Powertech Uranium Corp. JANUARY 10 www. bus- ex. com 39 Powertech Uranium Corp. develops low- cost uranium properties amenable to in- situ recovery methods, David Hendrick learns century resources of uranium for fuel ( Synatom currently owns 19.6 percent of Powertech). " Synatom also wanted to participate in the upside potential of Powertech as we become profitable from development." Clement says the quality of ore deposits is the key element of the foundation of the company. " Our Dewey Burdock and Centennial projects are two of the best known uranium resources in the United States. We've completed 43- 101 reviews on the deposits [ National Instrument 43- 101 ensures that securities commissions and investors are informed on technical matters materially affecting the financial status of the companies], and we're currently doing our detailed preliminary assessments for feasibility studies. We expect them to be highly profitable when they're established. The upside potential, especially on Dewey Burdock, is tremendous." Powertech has also acquired the adjacent Dewey Terrace, just across the border in Wyoming, which is a continuation of the zones it is planning to develop in South Dakota. " We're also excited about Aladdin, another area of potential that has been identified from the continuity of these mineralized zones," Clement says. " Collectively there will be many miles of individual roll fronts that can be mined. So this could be a considerable district, more than just a uranium deposit being mined by itself. In terms of our current development plans and future potential, we're going to be one of the major forces in the uranium business in this country." Powertech is in the process of applying for permits and licenses from the appropriate government agencies and is at least two years away from production. It has geologists experienced in mineral exploration as well as development geology in in- situ recovery. Its engineers have experience in developing surface facilities, and its chemical engineers understand the science of mining operations. Decades ago this area was recognized as a potential district for minerals, especially uranium. The Tennessee Valley Authority drilled more than 4,000 holes, and other mineral companies had plans to develop it as well. Then P owertech Uranium Corp. is a Denver- based uranium exploration and development company with leases on several properties in South Dakota, Wyoming and Colorado. President and CEO Richard F. Clement Jr. explains how the company came about. " Wallace Mays and I co- founded Denver Uranium in 2006 and put together a land package with support from a group of Canadians to acquire the leases for our Dewey Burdock project in South Dakota. From that beginning we merged the properties into Powertech Industries, which was an existing public company on the Venture Exchange. We changed the name to Powertech Uranium Corp., raised $ 23 million and acquired a number of significant properties throughout the high plains of the western US. Our emphasis has been acquiring uranium deposits capable of development through the in- situ recovery [ ISR] method. This development method has proved most applicable for sedimentary deposits typical of the high plains and down through Texas. Our expertise lies in the development of this type of uranium deposit." In- situ recovery, or solution mining, involves drilling cased water wells into the ore deposit, then injecting oxygen and carbon dioxide into the water that surrounds the uranium. This solution dissolves ore material, which is then pumped to the surface and processed in a simple water treatment plant. This allows the extraction of minerals from an ore body without the need for conventional mining. " ISR has been around since petroleum exploration companies began using the technique in the mid- 1970s," says Clement. " In terms of restoration and reclamation, the only thing that needs to be done is to return the groundwater to its previous condition, so it's environmentally safe." Uranium is a unique element particularly conducive to this method of mining. About a year and a half ago, Powertech created a strategic relationship with Synatom, a Belgian utility that owns several nuclear reactors in Belgium and was looking for a mining company that could provide future |
